Sri Chaitanya Gaudiya Math Puri
Chaitanya Gaudiya Math Puri stands on the place where Srila Prabhupada Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur was born. Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur made it his place of residence between 1870-1874. At this time, he was serving as the Deputy Collector and Magistrate. Srila Prabhupada was six months old when the annual Rath Yatra festival in Puri was held.
Lord Jagannath made his will known to the world by stopping his cart at the door of his house for three days. The cart stood there motionless. As a result, Bhaktivinoda Thakur organised magnificent kirtan ceremonies to be performed in front of it. The six-month old boy was brought to take darshana of the Deities. He held on to Lord Jagannath’s foot. A garland from Jagannath’s neck fell on him. He also took the first solid food of his lifetime in the form of Jagannath prasada.
After fulfilling the hankering of his devotee, Lord Jagannath finally allowed his cart to proceed. Thus, everyone present could predict the contribution Srila Prabhupada was going to have in spreading the Lord’s Holy Names.
His Grace Bhakti Dayita Madhava Goswami Maharaj reclaimed this house in 1974. He named it Chaitanya Gaudiya Math Puri. The Math is located on Grand Road. This allows the devotees to take daily darshan of Lord Jagannath in Sri Mandir. The Math’s location also serves as a focal point during the rath yatra processions every year.

Sri Nilachal Gaudiya Math Puri
Srila Bhaktivedanta Vaman Goswami Maharaj established Nilachal Gaudiya Math Puri in 1978. It is also part of Sri Gaudiya Vedanta Samiti. The idea for a math at that location originated from the wishes of Bhakti Prajnan Keshav Maharaj. These wishes were carried out by his disciple.
Srila Bhaktivedanta Vaman Goswami Maharaj has been likened to a dictionary of slokas due to his profound knowledge of the scriptures. He had the capacity to recite any sloka from memory that would perfectly suit the point being discussed. Once while preaching in Assam, a group of dissenters challenged him and his gurudeva to provide scriptural proof that Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is an incarnation of Sri Krishna. On the instruction of his gurudeva, he incessantly recited 50 slokas from different scriptures to lay down the proof. The dissenters were thoroughly defeated and ashamed.
Nilachal Gaudiya Math Puri is located on Gourbatsahi in Swargadwar. Its closeness to the samadhi of Haridas Thakur amplifies the Holy Names and the spiritual environment engulfing the math. The devotees have the twin benefit of being near to the Puri beach as well as the major sites as a vaishnava.
The Deities in the temple are Sri Sri Guru Gauranga Radha – Vinod Bihari Ji and Sri Sri Jagannath Deva. In addition to the beautiful temple, the math serves plenty of cows in its Goshala.
